I definalty agree with Brittanys response to this article, it is a tougher one to read, and hard to wrap your head around what he is really getting at. But like most of McPhees articles its something you just have to take you time and read slowely, to really get a sinse of how he is writing it, and why he is putting certain phrases, words, or facts, in specific places.

This article just talks about how important nature is to human beings. And how we as humans sometimes take nature for granted, and dont realize the many things in whick it provides. McPhee specifically talks about the mississippi river, and its influence on how we live. And how although we dont see it as an asset, it is something of great resources. It provides so many things that we cant even comprehend. What i think McPhee is getting at here, is that nature is a gift, and we need to let it do its thing, and leave it to live and die on its owe. Sooner or later we will have gone to far, and really noticed how much nature is a priority to human life.
